THE LOOK BACK NOW is a power-pop quartet from Toronto, Ontario. The band is comprised of Michael Callahan (guitar), Elliott Gallagher-Doucette (guitar and vocals), Michael Murad (drums) and Ezra Sherman (bass and vocals). After forming in the early months of 2016, they embarked on a studio effort at Royal Mountain Studios with producer Nixon Boyd, of the Juno-nominated group, Hollerado. With their debut EP, THE LOOK BACK NOW seeks to pair their boisterous rock sound with Elliott Gallagher-Doucette’s story-telling lyrics.
“Music provides a lens through which people see moments in time,” Elliott Gallagher-Doucette claimed in an interview with Toronto media outlet, IlluminateTO. “One of my first memories is being in my living room with my mother dancing to ‘Born in the USA.’ I think that that is something that will stick with me for the rest of my life. For me, that’s what is valuable about music. It truly has the ability to capture moments in time for us, and bring us back to those moments seamlessly.”
As THE LOOK BACK NOW pays respect to the past through their music, they have drawn comparisons to Canadian power-pop forerunners the Joel Plaskett Emergency, also taking influence from bands like Sloan and Weezer. With their lead single, “Running Away,” the group rolls out a nostalgic story of leaving home and moving onto an uncharted chapter of your life.
