As we gear up for 2017 we want to keep past and future Riverfriends in the loop. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions we get. Please note that some of the info may change as we come closer to festival weekend.
Q: Where is the summer festival held?
A: Riverfest Elora is held at the picturesque Bissell Park on the banks of the Grand River in beautiful downtown Elora. This is river from where we got our name! The park is located 2 blocks east of downtown Elora at 127 Mill Street E., across the street from the Elora Centre for the Arts.
Q: Where is the main gate of the festival?
A: You will only be able to enter the festival from the west side of the park, off of Melville Street. This is the side of park that is closest to downtown Elora. You will not be able to enter the grounds from the east side of the park/the Bissell Park parking lot. For more, please refer to our map.
Q: Is the festival rain or shine?
A: Indeed it is. We’ll be going whether it rains or whether it shines. Make sure you dress accordingly. Bring some slickers if rain is in the forecast or some sunscreen if it’s going to be sunny!
Q: Can I bring food into the festival?
A: You can bring snacks to the festival. Yeah for trail mix!
Keep in mind, there will also be plenty of food vendors at the festival providing a wide variety of options, including offerings for those with dietary restrictions and requirements.
Q: Can I bring bottled water into the festival?
A: In an effort to keep the festival ‘green’, there will be free water stations provided by Wellington Water Watchers, who will be providing potable water free of charge. You can fill a reusable bottle brought from home, or you can purchase a Riverfest reusable mug for $6. Riverfest Elora is a bottled water free and waste conscious event.
Q: Is there re-entry once I have entered the grounds and received my wristband?
A: Yes, the wristband allows you to come and go as you please! There are in-and-out privileges all weekend long. Yippee!
Q: Why is my favourite artist playing such a short set?
A: We love all of our performers (trust us… that’s why we’re having them at the fest!), but we’ve got a number of incredible musical acts to cram into three days. Due to this limited time frame, we have tried to allot as much time as we can to each performer. We hope you understand!
Q: Can I bring my pet to the festival?
A: Unfortunately, no pets are allowed at the festival this year. Service dogs are most welcome!
Q: Where am I going to sit?
A: You are highly encouraged to bring blankets to the festival. Lawn chairs are also welcome, we just ask that you be courteous with other festival goers and the amount of space your chairs take. Come early to stake out your spot. There is a massive swath of grass to lay down in!
Q: I am bringing my car to the festival. Can I park on the festival grounds?
A: THERE IS NO PARKING ON SITE. On-site parking will only be available in the Bissell Park Melville St parking area for those with disabilities on a first come, first served basis. We encourage you to walk, bike or take a shuttle bus to the festival. Parking is available on the side streets surrounding Bissell Park and in downtown Elora. There is a large parking lot located by the old Little Folks factory, located across from the LCBO when entering downtown Elora.
Q: What’s this about free shuttle buses? I want to park my car and ride a shuttle to the festival!
A: We will be offering free shuttle buses to the festival site from Elora, Fergus and Guelph all weekend long. The shuttle buses stops are next to large parking lots, where you can park and ride to the festival in style. Check out where you can pick up a shuttle bus here!
Q: I’m planning on biking to the festival. Will there be a place for me to park my bike at the fest?
A: Yes! We will have fences for you to lock your bicycle to. However, it is a first come, first served basis! You are also welcome to lock your bike to our massive perimeter fence during the festival!
Q: I want to bring my kids. How much will that cost me?
A: Children 12 and under are free with a paid guardian. However, in order to get their wristband, they will need to be with their paid guardian at the festival gate (who must present their ticket). Children 10 and under will not be given a wristband if they are not accompanied by a paid guardian.
Q: Are there reserved seats at the festival?
A: Nope. The festival is general admission. The entire festival grounds will have excellent vantage points of the stage, but come early if you want to stake a spot with your blanket.
Q: What are the photography rules at Riverfest?
A: There is no flash photography permitted. You can take photos, but please be mindful of the other festival-goers and performers.
Q: Is there wheelchair accessible parking available?
A: There is accessible parking adjacent to the festival grounds, at the end of Melville Street on the west side of the park. You must have proper documentation and space is limited, first come first serve.
Q: Will there be tickets available to purchase at the gate?
A: Tough call. Tickets are selling quick, it’d be in your best interest to buy your tickets beforehand. If tickets are available at the gate, it will be announced on our Facebook and Twitter pages. Tickets purchased at the gate will be CASH ONLY.
Q: Do I have to print my ticket?
A: Tickets do not need to be printed as they can be scanned from phones.
Q: Are there ATMs at the festival, or should I bring cash?
A: Bringing cash is a good idea, however there will be ATMs available.
Q: Can I exchange my Friday ticket for a weekend pass/can I exchange my Saturday ticket for a weekend pass/can I exchange my Sunday ticket for a weekend pass?
A: Sorry, but we are unable to do exchanges. We suggest you privately sell your original ticket then purchase a weekend pass, or purchase a Friday/Saturday/Sunday ticket in addition to your previously purchased ticket.
Q: I bought extra weekend passes, but my friends can’t attend both day. Can one friend use the pass on the Friday, and then another friend use the pass on the Saturday/Sunday?
A: Unfortunately, weekend passes are not transferable between individuals. The recipient of the weekend pass will be wristbanded and will need to remain so to gain access into the festival the entire weekend.
Q: Is there alcohol available?
A: Yes, Riverfest Elora is a licensed event. Please drink responsibly. Check out who is serving.
Q: Do I need a Riverfest mug for my purchased alcohol?
A: Why, yes, yes you do. All beer, wine and liquor is served in our signature Riverfest mugs. Mugs will be available for purchase on site for $6. You can also bring your mugs from last year’s event!
Q: Where is the winter festival held?
A: Ice Jam Elora has traditionally been held at Bissell Park. It took a year off in 2017, but will return in 2018. For more information and frequently asked Ice Jam questions, head over here.
